Routing in NT Workstation / Win2K Pro / XP Pro

Post by BlackOrchid »

There is no GUI to enable routing in any of the "workstation" releases of MS OS's, but a registry tweak can still do it. In both Win2K Pro and XP Pro, the following registry key should already exist. In NT, you may simply have to create it.
  • 1. Run regedit/regedt32

    2. Navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Tcpip\Parameters

    3. There is a REG_DWORD called IPEnableRouter - which is set to 0 by default. Set that to 1.

    4. Reboot.

    You're good to go.
I haven't seen any support for a routing protocol on 2K Pro / XP Pro, but you're welcome to go look!
